Care & Healing - Nurturing Your Well-Being
Does your workplace have an Employee Assistance Plan? If so, use it! You can talk to a trained counsellor a specified number of times for free.
If you have therapy coverage, look for a therapist who fits your needs and goals.
No coverage? Check out one of the agencies offering drop-in or short-term counselling services.
Talk to your family doctor about how you’re feeling. They can connect you to WRHA supports.
Get involved with your faith community; they may offer support, skills, networking opportunities and more.
Share your struggles with important people in your life. It’s okay to ask for help and to accept it when offered.
Check in with your coworkers regularly. A simple chat can help create a supportive environment where everyone feels valued.
Embracing Healing - Whether You Stay or Move On
Abuse can create complicated patterns. Once you feel safe physically, emotionally, and mentally, waiting for healing can be tough.
Here are some simple strategies to help you heal:
Allow yourself to grieve the loss of this relationship. It had meaning in your life, try to find ways to honour these aspects.
Give yourself time to relax and do things that reconnect you with the important things in your life.
Spend time with people who will support you through your pain and confusion.
Think about working with a professional who can help you on this journey. Focus on what you can control and let go of what you can’t.
During any future job interviews, look for warning signs that remind you of past experiences. Remember, you’re not the only one being interviewed; you’re also figuring out if this job and workplace is right for you. If it’s not, trust your gut and move on.
